“I’m proud to have the support of so many California leaders, many of whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with directly over the past few months as we coordinated our pandemic response,” said Sen. Padilla. “I applaud their leadership throughout this crisis, and I feel fortunate to call them partners in our ongoing work to solve the challenges facing California.”

“Senator Alex Padilla has proved himself to be a powerful advocate for Californians in the U.S. Senate,”  Mayor London Breed. “His strong support for the American Rescue Plan helped bring over $600 million to San Francisco, preventing disastrous budget cuts and layoffs while also allowing us to maintain critical City services and support for those in need. I’m confident that Senator Padilla will continue to deliver for San Franciscans, which is why he has my full support in his campaign for Senate in 2022.”

“I’m honored to endorse my friend Senator Alex Padilla for election to the U.S. Senate in 2022,” said Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff. “During Senator Padilla’s tenure in Washington, he has quickly become a leading voice on immigration issues and an outspoken advocate for undocumented immigrants. His first bill, which provides a pathway to citizenship for undocumented essential workers, demonstrates his commitment to lifting up the most vulnerable and vital members of our communities. His bold leadership is exactly what Washington needs at this critical moment in our nation’s history, and I am certain he will continue to make California proud for years to come.”

“I worked closely with Senator Padilla for 8 years in the State Senate.  He is the best of the best,” said Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg. “Alex is already making his mark on national policy in a way that directly benefits California.  California would be well served to return him for a full term. He is only beginning to accomplish great things for our State.”

“Senator Padilla arrived in Washington with a bold agenda to secure urgent economic aid, address the COVID-19 crisis, tackle our nation’s broken immigration system, defend Americans’ voting rights, and fight for solutions to climate change,” said San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo. “He is delivering on his promises with grace and passion. Senator Padilla is the best of what California has to offer our nation, and I wholeheartedly support his continued service in the US Senate.”

“When Senator Padilla arrived in Washington, our state and our country were in crisis,” said Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia. “We are not out of the woods, but hope is on the horizon thanks in part to Senator Padilla’s work in DC. He delivered on his promise to make fighting COVID and securing economic aid his top priority, and in Long Beach we have seen the direct benefits of the American Rescue Plan. Senator Padilla’s bold leadership on immigration and climate change underscore his dedication to protecting and promoting our California values. I look forward to his election to the Senate in 2022 and will be supporting his campaign along the way.”

“Senator Alex Padilla made history as California’s first Latino U.S. Senator and he continues to make us proud,” said San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria. “San Diego’s residents and small businesses have received direct assistance as a result of Senator Padilla’s advocacy in Washington and I am confident that we will come back from this crisis stronger than before thanks to his leadership. Californians are lucky to have Senator Padilla as their voice in the Senate and he has my continued support.”

“Like many Californians, I see myself in Senator Alex Padilla. As California’s first Latino Senator, Senator Padilla lends his voice to the millions of Latinos who for so long lacked representation in Washington,” said Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo. “During his first few months in office, he has become a leading advocate for immigration reform and support for all workers, including those seeking a path to citizenship, proving himself to be a strong defender of the California Dream. I’m honored to endorse his campaign to continue his service as California’s champion in the U.S. Senate.”

Sen. Padilla was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to fill the Senate seat vacated by Vice President Kamala Harris for the remainder of her team. He is up for reelection in 2022.
