ALEX PADILLA’S LABOR SUPPORT GROWS FOR 2022 SENATE CAMPAIGN
LOS ANGELES, CA – Today Senator Alex Padilla announced new labor endorsements ahead of his campaign for the United States Senate in 2022. The endorsing labor organizations include the National Union of Healthcare Workers, the Northern California Carpenters Regional Council, the Southwest Regional Carpenters, and UA Local 38 Plumbers & Pipefitters. In April, Senator Padilla launched his 2022 election campaign with a broad range of endorsements including nearly all of the California Congressional Delegation, all statewide officials, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Senator Elizabeth Warren. He has since been endorsed by Equality California, the California League of Conservation Voters, and California’s Democratic big city mayors.

“In just a few months as California’s first Latinx U.S. senator, Alex Padilla has established himself as a champion for working families, voting to pass the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan and declaring his support for Medicare For All and comprehensive immigration reform,” said NUHW President Sal Rosselli. “For NUHW members who have put their lives on the lines for their patients over the past year and are concerned about protecting their health on the job, building an equitable healthcare system that serves everyone and jump-starting an economic recovery that prioritizes those most impacted by the pandemic, Alex Padilla has proven that he is the right person to represent California in the U.S. Senate. Our members have supported Alex throughout his career in public service. From his tenure on the Los Angeles City Council to his emergence as a national leader in making it easier for people to vote as Secretary of State, Alex has stayed true to his immigrant, working class roots and fought to improve the lives of all Californians.”
“The Southwest Regional Carpenters is proud to endorse our Senator Alex Padilla for re-election,” said Dan Langford, Executive Secretary-Treasurer, Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters. “From the Los Angeles City Council to the United States Senate, Alex has been a steadfast champion for working people. In the Senate, he’s leading the charge for critical investments in federal infrastructure and passing important worker protections like the PRO Act. We look forward to continuing working with Senator Padilla to improve the lives of our more than 58,000 members.”
“The Northern California Carpenters Regional Council endorses Senator Alex Padilla because Senator Padilla has already proven his ability to deliver for California’s working families,” said Bob Alvarado, Executive Secretary Treasurer, Northern California Carpenters Regional Council. “Senator Padilla was a vocal supporter of the American Rescue Plan, which delivered critical economic relief when Californians needed it most. As the Senator continues to use his platform to advocate for job-creating policies like infrastructure investments and labor protections, we are hopeful that he will remain our champion in Washington for years to come.”
“As we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic, economic recovery is front of mind for our members,” said Larry Mazzola Jr, Business Manager/Financial Secretary Treasurer for UA 38, Plumbers & Pipefitters. “In the few months that Senator Padilla has served in the Senate, he has proved to be a tireless advocate for workers seeking relief and eager to get back to work. Senator Padilla fought for direct stimulus payments to families and has spoken out in support of pro-labor legislation like the PRO Act and infrastructure projects that provide good union jobs. UA Local 38 is proud to endorse Senator Padilla’s election to the Senate in 2022 on behalf of our 2600 members in Northern California.”
“I’m proud to stand with working families in the fight for labor rights and protections,” said Senator Padilla. “Healthcare workers, plumbers, builders and teachers, are essential to our daily lives and make up the backbone of our economy and our communities. I’m honored to have the support of these labor unions and I look forward to continuing my work to ensure all working Californians have the skills, resources and protections they need in the workplace.”
Sen. Padilla was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to fill the Senate seat vacated by Vice President Kamala Harris for the remainder of her term. He is up for reelection in 2022.
